Bio & cv
Alana is an accomplished artist graduating from RMIT School of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Art (Painting) with Distinction in 2012. She paints beautifully detailed pieces featuring Hot Rods and Hollywood stars. With every spare moment, she devotes it to her art, spending many late nights in her studio creating the next masterpiece.
From an early age she attended hot rod shows, drag meets and loved the glamour of old films and vintage fashions that paralleled the era. Both her parents and brother are dedicated to tradition and the art of building Hot Rods.
Her artwork ranges from portraits of classic Hollywood starlets, to the most recent collection of Hot Rods.
Pieces of her art are featured in collections around the world, including Spain, America, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, and Australia. She has travelled to Rome and Florence, Italy on a scholarship where she resided for 6 weeks and was awarded the Rome Art Program Purchase Award for a plein air painting completed during the residency.
Alana continues to her art practice now based in Brisbane, Queensland. Please contact Alana about purchasing a painting or commissioning an artwork.
Alana Wilkie’s art practice alters the composition of found imagery to construct a narrative. Her interest is in the aesthetic of the feminine woman and experimenting with ways to reconstruct the composition to create new meaning. This is attempted by introducing diverse subject matter into the composition of the images of women. These new compositions are then precisely transformed into highly detailed paintings, reflecting delicacy and carefulness, characteristics traditionally attributed to feminine women. The work examines ideas of ornamental beauty and social acceptance.
